How Your Data Is Stored
All tab data — URLs, titles, group names, settings — is stored exclusively using the browser's storage. This means:
- Data lives in your browser profile on your own device
- AllTab does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data
- The only external requests are to load website icons (favicons) — see Third Parties below
- Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data
AllTab does not collect or send any personal data or analytics over the network. The only external requests are to load website icons (favicons) — either from the original website or from Google's public favicon service as a fallback. Only the domain name is used. No personal data is transmitted. No tracking pixels, crash reporters, or external scripts are used.
Permissions Explained
AllTab requests only the minimum permissions needed for each feature. Optional permissions are requested at runtime only when you activate the related feature — they are never granted automatically.
Required Permissions
These are granted when you install the extension and are needed for core functionality.
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
tabs |
Core permission. Read tab URLs, titles, and status to save, organize, close, pin, discard, group, reload, mute/unmute, sort, and move them. Also used to detect new tabs, open the dashboard, merge windows, and isolate tabs by domain. |
storage |
Save all your tab groups, settings, preferences, and internal state locally in the browser. Nothing is sent externally. |
unlimitedStorage |
Remove the default 10 MB storage limit so you can save large numbers of tab groups, backups, and notes without running out of space. |
contextMenus |
Add right-click menu options: open AllTab, hibernate tabs (this tab, left, right, others, wake all), and save tabs (this window, group, this tab, except this, left, right, all windows). |
tabGroups |
Integrate with the browser's native Tab Groups feature. When restoring tabs, AllTab can recreate the original tab groups with their names and colors. |
alarms |
Schedule background tasks: automatic tab cleanup, auto-backup intervals, Rest Mode scheduling (on/off timers), hibernate monitoring, and keep-alive for auto-reload. |
sidePanel |
Display AllTab in the browser's Side Panel, allowing you to manage saved tabs alongside your current browsing without switching to a separate tab. |
system.memory |
Read total and available system memory to display real-time RAM usage in the popup. |
Optional Permissions
These are only requested when you use a specific feature for the first time. You can revoke them at any time.
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
sessions Optional |
Power the Undo feature: access recently closed tabs and windows so you can restore them. Also used to view open tabs from your other synced devices. |
scripting Optional |
Inject small scripts into tabs for three features: Volume Control (adjust individual tab volume and bass boost), Rest Mode (apply visual filters like grayscale or warmth to reduce eye strain), and Maximize Video. No data is read or collected from the pages. |
bookmarks Optional |
Export your saved tab groups to the browser's bookmarks, and import bookmarks into AllTab. Creates organized bookmark folders that mirror your AllTab groups. |
downloads Optional |
Download backup files (JSON) to your computer. Also used by auto-backup to periodically save backup files to your downloads folder. |
<all_urls> Optional |
Required alongside scripting to allow Volume Control, Rest Mode, and Maximize
Video to work on any website. Only requested when you enable one of these features. No
browsing data is read or collected. |
AllTab does not use any of these permissions to access your passwords, form data, or the content of web pages. They are used strictly for the features described above.
Third Parties
To display website icons (favicons) next to your saved tabs, AllTab may load them from:
- The original website (using the icon URL already known to your browser)
- Google's public favicon service (
google.com/s2/favicons) as a fallback, where only the domain name (e.g. "example.com") is sent
No personal data, full URLs, or browsing history is shared with these services.
Data Deletion
To delete all data stored by AllTab, simply uninstall the extension from your browser. All saved tab groups, settings, and preferences will be permanently removed. Note that any backup files you exported to your computer are managed by you and are not affected by uninstalling.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. The developers of AllTab have no plans to collect personal data, so significant policy changes are unlikely.
